  1. Discussion
  2. State Librarian Marty Reid:
State budget is level funded. MRL will not be purchasing any books other than large print (these are paid for with Federal money), law books & library science books.

In the digital world borrowing is up. Marty would like a few people from GMLC to sit on the :Digital Board” to discuss what’s coming and what is best to use.

The resource sharing system to replace VALS has been posted as an RFI to get costs. VT is considered a low volume ILL transaction state as there are typically fewer than 100,00 transactions a year). The components involved are:

  • ILS (Sirsi Dynix)
  • Resource Sharing System to connect all libraries

An ILL Task Force is being formed to look at options. A delivery system has been shelved due to funding.

  1. Budget:

The Budget is in good shape after 1st quarter.

  1. Overdrive (LUV):
The option to allow libraries to give transfer books from Overdrive Advantage back to the GMLC general library is expected to be available in 2015. There are currently technical issues Overdrive is working out.

The board reviewed the option of using the magazine portion of Overdrive but determined that is was expensive with too many restrictions and not enough popular titles.

  1. Hoopla:

There is now the possibility of a consortium model. It is a minimum of $6,000 which can then be used towards circulation. The cost would be $50,000 for entire service area. This would be $500 per libraries at 181 libraries with 400,000 patrons.

  1. Survey:
Lucinda will generate a survey to gauge interest in new digital content offerings. We need to know the approximate town population and the amount they would be willing to pay for the following services:
  • Hoopla
  • Zinnio
  • Linda
  • Freegal
  • Safari Books

Ancestry was determined not to be a fit at this time as a patron is required to use in in house and we are focused on products that can be used outside of the library.

  1. Email Monitoring:
Chris is the primary person monitoring the vtaudiobooks email account..
