1. Overdrive Advantage program:
Chris Kirbyspoke to the four libraries that are currently enrolled in the Overdrive Advantage program. All four of them joined in the program in an effort to better meet local demand for e-books. The discussion centered around the need to support the Consortium as a whole vs. local support. Some consortia require libraries that participate in the Advantage program to buy one new title for every new title they get via Advantage. Others forbid participation in Advantage all together. After a long and thoughtful discussion, the Board decided to institute a $250 for any library that wishes to join the Advantage program. This fee would be spent on buying additional content for the Consortium. The four libraries already participating are grandfathered in without the fee. One Board member observed that our fees will have to increase so that we can keep pace with patron demand. Judy will prepare a number of blog posts to educate our members about the costs of e-books. Owen pointed out that Random House raised their e-books prices 300% a week ago.
